Lunar New Year Family Day 2026
Join us for a vibrant day of creativity, connection, and celebration, where we explore the horse to welcome the Lunar New Year or Tết in Vietnamese.
The horse is the seventh animal in the twelve-year cycle of the Vietnamese zodiac. The horse symbolises strength, freedom, agility, endurance, and generosity. Children born in the year of the horse are brave, free-spirited and have boundless energy.
Whether you’re looking to get creative, dive into stories, or discover playful new ways to embody the horse, there’s something for everyone!
This event is free of charge, any donations are warmly received.
Tickets are not mandatory, but help us to plan and understand this event better. Please book yours here.
What’s On:
'Free' Play
The studio will host creative activities to bring to life the theme of freedom, one of the key characteristics of the upcoming year of the horse. Children will be encouraged to use collage to recreate the spaces where they feel free; whether at home, at play or in nature. Experiment with different textures, colours and images to bring your favourite spaces to life.
Mini Playhouse
Children can make their own temporary homes in our Mini Playhouse! Make a den using sensory materials, colours and textures. Once you’ve finished, leave the story of your den behind for other children to hear, read and be inspired by!
Read the co-design story of our Mini Playhouse here.
A Terraced House in 2024
Explore the Nguyen family’s celebration of Tết using our interactive guide to the Vietnamese home in our Rooms Through Time. Draw objects, discover stories and discuss connections to your own family’s celebrations.
Clay Play with Nam Tran Cernamic
In the Learning Pavilion
We use the term family broadly to include any form of family structure, including LGBTQIA+ families, chosen family, friends and allies.
